South Korea is promoting an upcoming nuclear security summit in Seoul with a song that highlights the significance of orchestrated global efforts to make the world free of nuclear terrorism.
Popular singer Lena Park, better known here as Park Jung-hyun, sings the promotional track, dubbed “Peace Song,” in Korean and English.
Park, a Columbia University graduate, translated the original Korean lyrics into English, showing her attachment to the event, according to the preparatory secretariat for the summit.
“There’s no such thing as impossible. To keep our children laughing here and now, and forevermore,” she sings. “Reach and we’ll see and finally understand peace can be. Be this real place, this will be reality.”
The track was released on the Internet on Dec. 30 and is free to download from major music downloading websites, such as www.olleh.com and www.melon.com.
High-ranking officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, including Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan, are promoting the song by setting it as their mobile phone ringtone.
The second Nuclear Security Summit ㅡ following the inaugural 2010 meeting in Washington ㅡ will be held in Seoul on March 26 and 27 to produce practical measures that will help make the world free of nuclear terrorism.
More than 50 heads of state and representatives of international organizations will attend the meeting, making it the biggest diplomatic event ever held on Korean soil.
