Biopic of Korean famous Fashion Designer Andre Kim in the Works

The life of the flamboyant fashion designer Andre Kim is to be made into a film. The film studio Fantagio Pictures said it has started pre-production on a movie about the late Korean designer's life after signing a contract with his adoptive son, Kim Jung-do, late last year.

Kim's son reportedly gave his permission for the film with the proviso that it depicts his father's early life in detail so that audiences can understand him better.

Andre Kim (left) and Ha Jung-woo Ha Jung-woo will play the young Andre Kim, but the other actors and the director have not been decided. The film, which will be co-produced with CJ E&M, is expected to be released in the second half of next year.

The filmmakers said the movie will shed light on the young Andre Kim, who was the first male fashion designer in the country to make women's dresses. It will also touch on various events in the Korean fashion and entertainment industries in the 1960s.

Kim was born in 1935 and died in 2010. In later years he became a distinctive figure on the entertainment scene with his all-white outfits, hairnet and theatrical makeup.
