The Beauty of North-East India

Hi frens,
Here I am showchasing the beauty of the North-East state of India which is quite aloof in compare with the other state of India in terms of culture and economy. But the place is rich with natural beauty and its own unique culture.
The people of North-East states are quite simple. The economy is highly based on agriculture. The Northeast states are made by seven states and they have their own dialects and culture.

Siroy Lily Flower Valley (A kind of lily which is available only in Manipur at Siroy hill, one of the pride of Northeast as well as India)
This flower is an extremely endangered Siroy Lily (Lilium mackliniae Sealy) found only in the Ukhrul district of Manipur, India. The local people believed that it was reincarnated from a beautiful princess and some beleived that it is supposedly to be an‘angel’. Whatever it may be, but now at the verse of extinction. Conservation approaches are virtually nil. The locals who tried to preserved it are also driven out by the insurgents and armed forces.

Siroy Lily (We should acknowledge that this Lily is one of the precious asset of India). Frank Kingdon-Ward came to Manipur with his wife (the daughter of a Bombay, high court judge) for botanical research, in 1946. They set up base at Ukhrul in a building which they called "Cobweb cottage alias Bug bungalow" :-) Frank made the exciting "discovery" of Siroi lily, and named it after his wife Jean Macklin. Siroi lily is the state flower of Manipur, but has unfortunately become a rare and endangered species in India. The plant is about a foot tall. The leaves are longish and narrow like most lilies. The flowers are pinkish white, delicately flushed pink at the base, and hang looking down. In fact, in Manipur the flower is compared to a beautiful and modest girl. In India, the plant blooms in May-June, and is a local tourist attraction. Siroi is the state flower of Manipur and grows only in the Siroy village of Ukhrul district of Manipur, India.

Tharon CaveTharon Cave is about 27 km from Tamenglong, the district headquarters of Tamenglong District. The cave is 655.6 meters in length and features 34 joints and five exits. Excavations at the site had unearthed specimens related to the Hobinian culture of North Vietnam.
A good ventilation system in the cave ensures that there is ample air circulation inside. The map of the entire cave is engraved and painted on a stone at the main entrance. This gives a clear picture of the alleys and turns inside the cave.

Barak Fall

Barak River, a legend, is the biggest river of Manipur, which originates from Liyai area. This river is the habitat for variety of endemic fishes, crabs, prawns and other aquatic life. The river is an integral part of life for many of the surrounding villages since time immemorial. It among others provide means of livelihood for many poor villagers. Vast paddy stretches fields surround both sides of the river banks and is considered as rice bowl for the Marams, Maos and the Poumai tribes.
Till a decade ago, villagers had been practicing traditional fishing methods such as using of net, hook, bamboo trap, partial diversions of river, herbal poisoning etc. Herbal poisoning is resorted to occasionally and is usually not very toxic, thereby within manageable level. In fact there was a traditional belief that, periodic poisoning of river enhances the fertility of the river. Fishing was a secondary livelihood activity for many poor villagers, which is usually continued through out the year by applying suitable and sustainable methods.

Our Trip to explore Korean cultural site.

We all gathered in front of the main library of our university where the bus was already waiting for us. This time, its more fun because the trip is only for the Korean Government Scholarship Students. So there was no hazzles. And I get to see some of my freinds whom I know from earlier. But the buses and the groups were classified according to the class wise.I was with my classmates, we left Seoul on the bus to Andong at around 8.30 a.m.
Initially I was thinking what all it could be and I really wanted to skip the trip but when I reached there it was so nice. Beacause I am able to experienced the Confucian school as well as the teaching methods and the philosophy of the Confucianism.
Due to lack of short schedule we were unable to explore more about the Village but I have learned that Andong is famous for many things.
Andong is known as the land of Yangban people also.
From there we go to our hotel where we had nice time having a game of throwing arrows in the recreation time then go back into our own respective rooms. We all freshen up and then have dinner together and go back into the room . There again we shared room with the other students from different countries . I think this is quite interesting because we get opportunity to meet another students from different countries and shared our culture and knowledge.
The next day we get up and go down into the hall where we practice the meditation class and learn the methods of Confucianism practice to relax ourself. Afterwards we all go to visit the musem where we learned about the script and the family clan system and the marriage practices as well as the traditional Korean society.
Then we go to the visit the Andong's special paper making factory as well as mask making store where we get the previledge to learn how to make a mask . We made our own mask and it was really fun to have within some few minutes.
I was so keen to see the paper design and how it makes as I had been hearing a lot about the uniqueness of Korean paper when i was in India. But today i get a chance to explore and feel it.
