More and more Korean Universities are in Top list

3 Korean Universities Among Asia's Top 10

For the first time three Korean universities have made it into the top 10 in the Asian University Rankings, which is compiled by Quacquarelli Symonds and the Chosun Ilbo. Seoul National University was ranked fourth in Asia, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) seventh and Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) ninth.

This year, 461 universities in 15 countries were included for evaluation. Last year, Korea had just one university in the top 10, with SNU in sixth place. It is also the first time that Seoul National University overtook the University of Tokyo, which was ranked eighth.

Hong Kong University of Science and Technology topped the list, and the National University of Singapore was the runner-up. The University of Hong Kong came third, Chinese University of Hong Kong fifth and Peking University sixth.

Nineteen out of the top 20 Korean universities climbed in the Asian rankings. Yonsei University moved up two places from last year to 16th, and Korea University jumped five ranks to 21st. Sungkyunkwan University was placed 24th, Hanyang University 33rd, Ewha Womans University 40th, Kyunghee University 41st, and Sogang University 51st.

An increase in the number of publications in international journals and graduates achieving success in global corporations helped boost the rankings of Korean universities.

In rankings for universities in Asia without medical schools, Sogang University, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, University of Seoul, Sookmyung Women's University, Hongik University, and Kookmin University were also competitive. The rankings have been published since 2009.
