More Korean Universities in Global 200
Korean universities made great strides once again in global rankings, with six now placed in the world's top 200.
On the list for 2012 by British consulting firm Quacquarelli Symonds released Monday, Seoul National University came 37th, and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) 63rd and 97th. Yonsei University was at 112, while Korea and Sungkyunkwan Universities came 137th and 179th.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology topped the rankings followed by the University of Cambridge, Harvard University, University College London and University of Oxford.
Korea has had three universities in the world's top 100 for two years in a row, and one more in the top 200 since last year, from five to six. SNU broke into the top 40 for the first time since rankings started.
Sungkyunkwan University jumped from last year's 259th to 179th to enter the top 200 for the first time.
By country, the U.S. has 54 universities in the top 200, followed by the U.K. (30), Germany (11), Japan (10), Canada (nine), Australia (eight), China and Switzerland (seven), Hong Kong (five) and France (four).
