Scarlett: taking refuge at Gangnam urban jungle

One of the best ways to give yourself a break from mundane office life is to enjoy a full meal at an ambient restaurant for lunch or grab a drink under fancy lights after work. For those working in the skyscraper jungle near Seolleung Station, American-style restaurant Scarlett can offer you that sweet escape.

Located on Tehran-ro, the dimly lit eatery is a fail-safe for any occasions and get-togethers including first dates.

The kitchen boasts U.S.D.A prime beef steaks and burgers. With the dish named NY Trio, one can taste a rib-eye steak, New York steak and lobster grilled on oak tree charcoal at the same time. Steak dishes cost from 28,000 to 58,000 won.

Other highlights include New Orleans-style stew, gumbo (11,900 won) and New York shrimp cream pasta (17,500 won). Gumbo, spicy stew made with seafood and sausage, can be a special hangover cure. It is served with rice or noodles at the bottom. The cream pasta uses soy milk that adds crisp nuttiness. California salmon steak (25,500 won), seasoned with fresh herbs, is juicy and has a buttery finish. For those that cannot decide, combination dishes like the New York Trio Pizza (19,500 won), which includes margherita, gorgonzola, and cheese toppings, can be the answer.

Scarlett also offers a selection of some 80 wines from 11 countries including five Premier Grand Cru Classe labels, three from French Winery E. Guigal, and organic produce.

With reasonable prices compared to family restaurants and a classy-hip interior of red couches, the venue is a great place for an affordable, mid-week refresher.

Starting this April, Scarlett’s Bar, separated from the dining area by elegant glass shelves of wine and champagne bottles, will offer a drink buffet — unlimited glasses of wine and draft beer — with a small-portion menu. The management plans to install more bar stools and open the space for office parties to accommodate the numerous businesses close by.

People planning to pop the question can call the restaurant ahead and staff will decorate a private room, and prepare flowers, cake, and a special menu for the occasion.

Jazz bands play on weekday nights from 9 p.m. Lunch menus are available from 11 am to 2: 30 p.m. Two private rooms that seat 20 people each are available for meetings and seminars. Peak hours are noon to 1 p.m. for lunch and 7 to 9 p.m. for dinner. To make a reservation, call (02) 2052-1483.
