Korean wave is not a new phenomena but the growth is still rising higher and higher. Well in this case, the Korean Government are fully supporting to expand the soft power. Whereas, in the case of Manipur, a small state situated in the corner northeast of India. A tiny state of India having various ethnic groups and languages within the small boundary itself and fighting for survival to live peacefully.
On the other-hand the people of Manipur especially the youngsters are wooed by this so called Korean wave or the "Hallyu". This is quite interesting because of the unique phenomena of influencing Korean wave rather than the Indian wave. Another important point is that even if Manipur is part of India but people pay more attention to the korean style and korean trend rather than the Indian style right after hit by the Korean Movies and Korean drama in the local channel of Manipuri world for example Arirang channel supplied by the local cable network group and spplying movies and drama at the local channels.
This is one of the rare case which people can count, because India itself is one of the dynamic country having multiple culture, ethnicity, religion and ofcourse diversities . Moreover , India Cinema is one of the famous and one of the largest cinema producing counrty in the world. Where, the Korean wave is still unable to breakthrough the mind of people and win their heart except the Korean hardware companies like L.G, Hundai, Samsung , Daewoo etc.
There could be various reason but the main point is that having powerful culture and cinema as well as the recent popular television drama of India does not able to conqure the heart and mind of tiny state of India called Manipur. Instead, people are watching more and more into Korean drama , movies and Arirang channel and imitating korean styles.
And the latest trend is that, the people of Manipur are using korean videos and mixing the local song and produce a nice music albums. Not only this, but the upcomming actresses also follow the Korean style of dressing sense, haircut and make-up etc.
One should look into this matter very carefully, because despite of having far distance geographically but somehow and somewhere there is a connectivity which bridge the gap of this two culture. Maybe because of the physical affinity of having mongoloid feature or resemblance in the other cultural activities people are connecting faster with Korean wave than the Indian wave.
May be this can help in future of both societies to build a new relationship of having a freindship ties and expand more in the field of culture, education,trade etc.
Since the trend of Looking toward West has become old,these days people are diverting from this very concept and moving toward the Look East policy. So people of Manipur can take this opportunity and can get more closer towards East.
